Happy Earth Day! I have this crazy little bird outside my window tearing my screen apart for nesting material. So I guess my project for earth day is going to be a decorative birdhouse lol. Hopefully she will stop picking at my screen or my next project will be a sling shot! Its been really nice outside, so I had a chance to collect some pine cones and we also cleaned a batch of driftwood bark for some fun earth day activities.
Supplies for this project is a hot glue gun, a Walmart bird house (4.99) and natural materials from the yard like pine cones, bark, rocks, leaves, moss, ect. I used a Dremel tool with a cutter tip for shaping my bark and cutting the pine cone leaves but a chisel would work fine too. For my decorative birdhouse, I want to use bark on the side walls and make shingles with the pine cones and needles. I fit the bark pieces together on the walls like a puzzle and then glued them down with hot glue.
For the roofing I prepared a bowl of dry pine cone leaves. This was taking forever until I got out the Dremel tool. I just glued these down on craft sticks so there all straight and will stack like shingles for a nice cottage effect.
I added the dry moss in cracks around the bark and glued down some driftwood branches and pine cones for extra decorations.
Decorative Picture Frame
I ended up grabbing a picture frame to decorate with the same supplies. This was in the craft section of Walmart with the birdhouses and I think it cost 2-3 dollars.
I just glued down dry moss and bark and added some pine cones and pine needles.
A soda pop tab and a short screw on the back side will make hanging your picture really easy.
