Driftwood Art – Make a Dreamcatcher

Driftwood Art - Make a Dreamcatcher

I have this really cool piece of driftwood my friend gave to me a few years ago that looks like a knot-hole broken off some old tree. He told me I should make a dreamcatcher with it, but it looked silly because the wood is too thick to tie the web around. I thought about making a clock or a mirror but I really wanted to gift this back to my friend as a dreamcatcher. In the end I decided eye-hooks would have to suffice and  just paint them so they wont stick out like a sore thumb.

Project Overview

I measured out the inner circle and spaced out 10 holes for the eye-hooks. Part of the wood around the knot-hole was rotted so I had to remove a lot of wood and do a bit of shaping for it to sit right. To prevent the softer wood around the knot from chipping I decided to seal it with glossy Mod Podge after it was stained. I didn’t use gloss on the knot hole because the middle seems to pop out a bit better with 2 tones.

Now that my driftwood is stained and sealed, I can add my painted eye-hooks and make a dreamcatcher web inside the hole. For a great tutorial on the web part, check out How to make a Dreamcatcher.
